Electrical/H&S Lead
About the role:
You will be responsible for overseeing the electrical safety and health compliance aspects of installation projects across the Royal Navy estate.
This role will involve managing the safety protocols during the design, installation, and operational phases, ensuring compliance with electrical safety regulations, health and safety legislation, and MoD-specific standards.
You will act as the subject matter expert for both electrical safety and health & safety, providing leadership, guidance, and technical oversight to ensure that all work is conducted in a safe and compliant manner.
The role also requires the assessment and mitigation of risks associated with electrical installations and the promotion of a safety-first culture across all project sites.
Must have:
- In-depth knowledge of electrical safety standards (BS 7671, IET Wiring Regulations) and UK health and safety legislation (e.g., Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, CDM Regulations 2015).
- Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies and the ability to identify and mitigate electrical and operational risks.
Desirable:
- City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/2395 (Inspection and Testing) desirable.
- Chartered status with an engineering or safety body (e.g. CEng or equivalent) desirable.
Key responsibilities:
- Oversee the electrical safety aspects of all installation projects across the Royal Navy estate.
- Conduct inspections and audits of electrical installations, identifying potential hazards, and ensuring that all work is completed to the highest safety standards.
- Monitor compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations (e.g., CDM 2015 Regulations, HSE guidelines), ensuring that all site personnel adhere to safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations to promote a zero-harm safety culture.
- Develop and implement contingency plans for managing potential safety risks and emergencies during the installation process.
- Provide ongoing health and safety training for all project personnel, including electricians, engineers, and contractors, to ensure awareness and compliance with safety protocols.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and naval personnel to ensure that health and safety is embedded in the project lifecycle from design to implementation
